World Trade Center

1. I’m bleeding internally from all that drama. I think I cannot sit for another minute seeing that torture of being trapped in the debris.

2. The attempt to visualize Sept 11 through a micro lens isn’t tantamount to the macro tragedy it caused.

3. Hearing the news of the tragedy in several languages made the cable tv the God of information feeding the world of the somber news.

4. I credit Oliver Stone for coming up with the challenge of incorporating the documentary clips into the movie without overtly stressing on politics even how much he insists that it isn’t a political movie.

5. How the Marine officer went all the way to help the victims made me think if Filipinos would do the same thing had the exact situation happened.

6. And if Filipinos were the ones hovering over the wives or anyone who is related to anyone who is a victim of the collaspe, the entire barangay would be at one house and the guest will be serving refreshments while the entire crowd stays plastered in front of the television. Text messages will be spammed asking for prayers and volunteers for help because there isn’t enough military equipped enough in our country to handle anything like it.

7. The movie is a conveyance of the extent of human endurance under the most traumatic predicament.

8. Stone treads on Christianity by casting Jesus carrying a water bottle. Somehow that was excessive.

9. World Trade The Movie has been personalized yet casting Nicholas Cage’s sensationalized it. But then again, Oliver Stone has always been known not to sell his casting short as presented from last 1991′s JFK The Movie which of course he has had Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman and Donald Surtherland to name a few.

10. …which means that had it been any other movie, like say, some other disaster, would viewers respond to it differently?

11. Why did Jay Hernandez as Pezzulo had to die early? He was cute. Sniff. (See what Stone gets if he has these actors as casts? We lose focus.)

12. Maggie Gyllenhall’s character was very mature and strong.

13. Frank Whaley, the former paramedic’s character was underused.

14. Michael Shannon’s, Sgt. Karnes the marine officer, was exaggerated. He came up creating a Terminator-esque scene walking through the debris and emphasizing the need to help. What lacks is the light emanating behind him and alleluia songs.

15. The movie was supposed to showcase American’s heroism but it fell short compared to Paul Greengrass’ United 93 because of its big name actors and exaggerated storylines.

16. The movie actually made me cry. Thrice.

“Can You spell Gabbana?”

If you work in a fashion magazine and you ask that, its no surprise you’d be hung up on.

Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs working as a junior assistant for Runaway’s fashion icon Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep) was a character quite complex for someone who is absolutely everything the magazine doesn’t stand for: unfashionable. Even if she has the prettiest face ever to grace all the red carpets in Hollywood doesn’t make up for the fact that she doesn’t know how Gabbana is spelled and the difference between a croc skin belt and a buckled belt.

The movie only mirrored the book by twenty percent and I love that there are a lot of twists! I’ve hated the book because it was so exaggerated it bordered on inhumane and the movie just softened Miranda’s blows to her already presupposed cold character. Oh well, calling Andy Sachs as the “smart, fat girl” does certain wonders to Andy’s small frame but still, she appeared almost human in the movie especially in the last part that she kept a smile – a smile that hardly ever breaks out from her face — to herself.

The characters in the movie were altered to the extent that its not gonna pry the viewer’s attention from overworked Andy Sachs. Her bestfriend, Lily, turned out to be a black woman who has a penchant for art galleries, her boyfriend a chef and the guard who she sang songs with isn’t there! That would have been a fun moment. The screenwriter  Aline Brosh McKenna cuts down some of the author Weisberger’s overemphasis on Miranda’s campaign to be the Iciest Ice Queen. The character of Christian was disappointing because I expected someone swoon-worthy – not someone google-worthy because you don’t know the actor at all.

Meryl Streep is so cold, so regal I almost find myself applauding everytime she goes, “That’s all” with the same indifference she delivers whenever she dismisses Hathaway. It doesn’t do justice at all to ever reduce the movie and tear it to shreds by actually portraying a Miranda Priestly with depth. She doesn’t. She never will have and never will bore any emotion in her person. That scene where she smiled inside the car after seeing Andy showed that she is capable of feeling. And it wasn’t necessary seeing that when building a character of ice, it would have been better if that fact had been consistent.

If anyone can show me those lines Miranda delivered after Andy’s comeuppance on her run through, I would appreciate it. I love that she kept Andy in her place after telling her the difference her blue sweater did to the world. I am fifty percent materialistic which is why I, of all people, would understand how demeaning it is to call my clothes, my wardrobe and entire designer collection stuff.

Anyway, enough hoobeejabbers. I love the soundtrack! I love Jamiroquai playing when Andy was at her first party to represent Miranda..
