The 2008 Gratitude Post
When did Christmas ever mean anything? 14 years of a Christian upbringing, your parent’s scoffing at your denims on Christmas Eve and you suddenly declare December 25 as Holy? Sure, people could just tick you off by asking in all their plastic-faced glory why couldn’t everyday be a December 25. But that’s what they say, too, on Valentines and Thanksgiving. Pooh.
Christmas IS special and the holiday is a perfectly good excuse to get on the next trip to your parent’s city and not feel guilty gorging on that home baked ham.
I wish for the best this year and send off a fervent prayer thanking Him…
- …for having a job that writers would kill for
- …for friends that I would kill for
- …for all of my shoeboxes that don’t yield to gravity yet
- …for family that you can always go home to during the holidays
- …for the second home that could almost buy me a Condo unit with the monthly rent I’m paying for
- …for that sweet getaway in Bukidnon when you wanted no other air but nature’s.
- …for the arm that is around me when I wake up in the mornings. sweetest thing in the universe, babycoo.
- …for the mornings that I wake up asthma-free
- …for my grandmas who are still around
- …for renewing my relationship with mom – unconditional love at its best.
- …for ATMs, credit cards and check books
- …for my next door neighbor who’d harass me with her manuscript but wouldn’t think twice about being my In Case of Emergency person
- …for the island of Cebu
- …for Zero fares.
- …for SUNCELL’s unlimited calls.
- …for having a pretty cool Manager who doesn’t give a shit about what you do as long as you get to answer her questions at the end of the month…
- …for the health insurance that supports my dysfunctional lungs
- …for hair clips during those emergency brush offs

Ok, ok. I just need to do this. It’s a pre-requisite. I got this from Facebook anyway so nothing to panic about. Alas, the Christmas Wish List.

Before 2006 Ends
Cereal boxes!
I didn’t know my family has a weird sense of humor! Come Christmas day, la Familia plus the sangkatutak na kids and titos and titas and oh my god, my forehead has a huge dent from all that mano po –all gathered at Lola’s ancestral house (its soo old I swear every movement creaks) and exchanged gifts after the heavy lunch of roasted vaca and kambing. Tito Butch started to go, “I love my manita…” when I had to stop him mid-song because the song lasts for 15 seconds + 6 titos + titas and milliones na bata = 2007 na kami magend ng exchens geps. So he stopped, sulkingly, and everybody gasped when they all got cereal boxes. Of course those weren’t their gifts but Lola expected the reactions and got disappointed because Christmas isn’t all about gifts daw. Inside those boxes were numbers to their gifts under the tree. The sigh of relief that followed was hilarious. Mga tao talaga materialistic! Hahahh!

On the 26th, the superfriends had lunch, merienda, dinner and midnight snacks at gawsy Ansell’s house that literally houses everything! Everyone was there – even people who I haven’t seen in ages. Did I just say that I love going home on Christmas? The rest of the glamarazzi pictures here.
I miss my girls back in Cebu… and also Mitz, and Kitz, and Jay and Ling and hmm… you know who you are. And Mai! OMG I hope nag-end na pag-EMO niya.. and hmm.. Oh my I need to get back medrep’s at the hospital daw hihi the funny part is that I asked Mitz to go see him because I can’t and she’s all, Boyfriend?? Ack!
An ex-bf, Jake, went with me, Cookie, Barbie and Sarah to go get coffee at the local Starmart in Gusa and no it wasn’t weird because we’re friends. I just wish that other ex-boyfriend would realize that friends + ex = possible?! Duh. After coffee, we dropped Sarah and I went out with hmm what should we call him… Humvee! Haha because he owns one in the States. So Humvee and I went around the city and I found out that he hates socializing in bars, at gas stations where the party is at, and even malls. My head swirled because the opposites attract dogma never applies to me but he is sweet and funny and omg, I can talk anything at all while with him considering I’m hardly myself whenever I’m out on dates. Humvee’s different because my mouth is uninhibited and putak ng putak until he finally went, “Are you always this loquacious?” Sweet! But I’m thinking against dating him because he is the cousin of a close friend and it’ll be awkward as hell. But Humvee’s good for now and since I’ve been here I only get to see Chinese Jesus at Fu’s Glow Out party and mann, is he hot?? Everytime he asked me out I’m always occupied with something and I just hope I’ll see more of him before I get back to Sugbu.
Sosies… in two days the year will finally close its curtains and I can just picture myself putting one curtain aside and peeking at what’s left behind. A lot. So much. Anything and everything 2006 gave was exaggerated extravagance at the expense of my friends, my family, work and men and not to mention my wiser heart. The perennial 2006 flashback is still in progress just like what I attempted last year … so hopefully It’ll be done before the 6 turns to 7 and thank the people in 2006.
Missing Cebu. Missing so much it hurts.
