Dumaguete is the City of Spontaneity

Posted in: Vacationation

April 24, 2010 – With a small population and an almost four-hour travel period to a tiny town, Dumaguete City would be the perfect quickie weekend getaway of all weekend getaways. When you are in Cebu and devoid of a private jet, you can’t just say, “Hey, let’s go to Iloilo today and come back after dinner!” or, “Why not have dinner in Surigao and go home after dessert?” Apart from other places that I could think of (right now I’m drawing a blank) Dumaguete City would be the best city to go to on a whim. My friends told me that we are going to be taking the first bus on Sunday morning to Dumaguete and my first thought was, “I haven’t had sleep from the previous night!”

I was a bit groggy and grumpy and hungry but very much ready to get on a bus and just get lost in all that landscape view.  Yes, we can still smile like that. Photo below taken at the South Bus terminal with Chim, Andrea, Lee, Jihan and Randy. The boyfie took this shot.

Now for logistics, should you decide to not bring a car to Dumaguete City, the South Bus Terminal has scheduled trips of Ceres Lines bus from Cebu to Dumaguete that costs P100 from 6:00 am to 7:30 pm to the town of Bato where you get off the terminal to get on a pumpboat to Dumaguete City. Ceres Lines bus from Bato to Cebu schedule starts from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. You’ll be lucky if you get on a bus at 9pm and you’ll find out later why.

The bus dropped us off at the terminal in Bato/Santander where we paid for our P60 ($1.30) boat fare.

Hello, City of Gentle People, we are finally here! The first thing my friends did was rent motorcycles to go around the city. I am scared of motorcycles but if you can’t beat them, join them!

Of course, we took a road more travelled in Silliman University.

We stopped by for one last photo before heading out to have lunch in Dumaguete. We didn’t really even know where we were going and constantly stopped to ask for directions. You know how some people give you directions with their lips? “Dun!” And we would be as clueless as the first time we asked. Oh, well.

It is super near from Cebu! :) You can actually go there just for a day. It is something that I’d like to do once in a while.
