CDOKAY.COM actually sponsored this Speed Dating event out to help singles find the love of their lives after a nine-minute bell ring and a complete round robin shuffle. Tables and chairs were set up side by side at the Rooftop of the Marinel Building you’d think that a job fair is going on last Saturday.
My first question was, “Why did you join?”
“I was told that it’d be fun. And its a good way to socialize, right, get a date?”
“Good answer. Are you expecting that you’d meet someone you’d be interested to go out with?”
“Of course.”
So I pulled out my cellphone, opened a folder and showed a picture of Zahrin. “This is my sister. She’s single. I think you’ll like her.”
I was thinking I might be a good matchmaker someday after he took her number. After two shuffles, I cannot take it anymore. Why couldn’t they give you that bell on your table so just in case the whole thing’s intolerable, you’d bang the damn thing yourself and demand to shuffle now? Now I know nine minutes is the most insufferable number of all.
At least they served pizza, buffalo wings and beer. It was a great post-cursor to Valentines considering that the best Valentine buffet I had this year was The Valentine slash Chinese New Year Banquet at City Sports with Anton.
A camera crew from local ABSCBN came up to me and asked me point blank what I thought of the event. Nonplussed, I went, “Uh, I wish there were more guys above 25.” Then the guy laughed without taking away the camera. Que Horror.
Speed Dating takes away the F in FUN. As their disclaimer points out, they cannot vouch for the marital status, sanity or personality of the participant. It didn’t also say that it cannot vouch for their lineages either. I can count a few who were related to each other somehow. Do not speed date in a small city like CDO. You’d end up dating your cousin.

The party lasted for two hours and ended at 11pm. Our afterparty was at the Black Single’s Ball at Volume. DJ Owens from Club Embassy held fort to a Cagayan de Oro fete likened to a Studio 23 party’s offspring.
