In the Mountains II
The sign read, Camp Phillips and the familiar bungalow houses came to view. Sam made a right turn and the familiar road of the camp led to the center of the field. The Church. The huge football field. Commercial building. Familiar. Then he stopped right in front of the church.
“Get out.”
I looked at my black halter top down to my red flip flops then at the church. There was a wedding going on. No bridal car but a lot of girls in their ubiquitous array of tulle and satin and flowers. Is he serious? I’m hardly dressed for church.
But we got out from the car and slid into the left side of the church. He held my hand. “Hun, look at them. Isn’t this sweet?”
Sweet? Its awkward, kaya. We’re witnessing a very romantic thing going and we’re not even there yet. Going. Going. I wish. This is probably one of the most romantic things on my list — going to Church with someone you like while a wedding is ongoing and then wishing for the same thing to happen to you. Sigh. But if I was giddy, I didn’t show it. It was just too good to be true. We all know whenever something like that comes up, it’s never what you think it is. So I knelt and I prayed. God, why am I here? There must be some reason why you made me fall in love with this – I glanced at him and he was kneeling too, his eyes were closed and his forehead crinkled – amazing man right in front of me. I wonder what he must have been praying. I talked to God again. God, make this moment last. Even just for a day. Extend it. Anything. Make time stop. Well, just in Cebu.
I wished for that fervently and didn’t realize until my eyes were open that he was waiting for me to be done. I smiled shyly and let him take me outside.
It was Camp Phillips fiesta. There was a fair going on and lots of activities tonight. Tents were setup all over the field for people selling hand me down clothes, shoes and everything else. 50 bucks for a coat! I was floored. I half-skipped towards the mounds of clothes before me and he suddenly shoved Ph250 in to my hands. “Get me a pair of shoes. See if you can manage with that amount.”
Sure. Lol. They’re selling 50 bucks per pair. I could get him 3 pairs! Lol the more. But I was dismayed when I saw the pile. Ewww. Ratted Hand me downs. Sneakers that have seen better days. No. No. But I found this really nice hat. Wrinkled, knitted, brown with a pretty pink flower in the center. Perfect. Its was 25 bucks. He was amazed. Ha! Don’t underestimate my shopping skill. Lol. He paid 100 bucks for two hats that I could have gotten at less the price. The guy’s a doosh. Sorry hunhun.
After scouting the entire melee of tents, we needed to have lunch. He took me to the famous Del Monte Clubhouse where the restaurant boasts of their roast beef steak sandwich. I had one. He had a salad. For lunch. Odd. Here I was gorging on red meat while he eats his low cal lunch. Plus a glass of champagne that turned my face as red as my Havaianas. That turned my speech to slurs. That turned him on.
“We need to get a place to stay hun.” He said. He probably was turned on at the sight a drunk 24 year old who almost was half naked in her halter top. I told him Palaisdaan had rooms for rent. We can stay there for the night. I remembered the last time I’ve been there I was with my family and family friends. This time I was with my boyfriend whom I am going to spend the night with. Somehow, that was more exciting than any family gathering.
Palaisdaan was exactly the same thing as I remembered. There were huge swamps which I’m pretty sure were filled with Tilapia and bangus to be fished out and there was a huge pool before getting to the resort itself. Or something that resembles a hostel. Dorm. Hahah. They were charging 300 pesos per head in their air conditioned room which was a veryy bizarre charge for something that rents rooms. We got the first room with a queen sized bed, a really pretty vanity and French windows. Plus they have a makeshift clothesline. I sagged on the bed, exhausted. Sam had other things in mind. *wink*
“Hun, let’s go swimming.” I told him three hours later. “I don’t have a bathing suit but I have lingerie that also serves as a wet suit.”
He looked outside the window. “It’s freezing outside!”
I forgot about Bukidnon weather but didn’t care. “So? Comeon, it’ll be fun. Plus, we need a shower.”
“Yeah, we do.” He smiled and let me change my clothes in front of him. “Hurry or we might not get to the swimming part.” He growled.
I giggled and we ran downstairs to the pool. Whoa. There were people everywhere. Men. He frowned. “Put on my jersey, get on the pool and throw it back to me. I’ll follow.”
I like it when he gets into that mood. No questions asked, I descended down the stairs and threw him his jersey. His eyes almost popped when he saw the bra top I had on. “Cover yourself.” He hissed.
