Seniang Weekend
That’s the thing about a typical Friday night. It makes you think that it’s the best night to socialize because it’s the first weekend night and that somehow makes the rest of your weekend sound promising if you start it right. But no, because you are scheduled to log in at 1am and work vs. going out had always been an ongoing battle for you and the thought of choosing the former over the latter makes you cringe because you’d rather spend your Friday with Doi, a friend from CDO who came to Cebu to party or binge on large fries and a McFloat with Mitz and RJ. Then you realize that no Typhoon Seniang or scheduled log in should stop you from doing what you want despite heavily ignoring the voice that keeps on saying, “very. Irresponsible.” …. and on this Friday night… you binge on large fries and a McFloat with Mitz and Rj. Doi’s phone’s dead anyway.
Although Signal #1 was predicted to hit on Cebu Saturday afternoon causing the ASEAN Summit to be postponed until early January (woohoo to traffic rerouting being back to normal), you suddenly take back your words complaining that how come Cebu never gets storms and typhoons and it’s always Manila that gets to have all the weather disturbance in the world causing their work will be suspended, thus, giving CEBU all those QUEUE and making managers FORCE people to work because the bulk of the call volume is being handled by the poor Cebu agents.
It’s 7am right now and sun called in sick. There is a slight drizzle that has all the propensity to become major showers and goodluck to stilettos and cab rides, this day is going to veryy longgg.

icebreaker
D and I talked. After a month and 2 week hiatus, we texted. And we talked on the phone. There was an awkward pause every two seconds. I didn’t allow myself to go on autistic mode for I might not be able to relive every moment of it.
D: “So how are you?”
Me: “I’m great. You?”
(pause)
D: “We’re getting busier. The summit is almost near.”
Me: “Oh yeah. This monday. I cannot imagine.”
(pause)
D: “Did you know that one king booked one entire –
Me: “–floor of the Shang? Yeah, Chris told me.”
D: “You talked to Chris?”
Me: “Uhuh. He and my friend Mitz are getting close now. Don’t know what’s up. Do you?”
D: “No, he hardly talks about that. What else did you talk about?”
(pause)
Me: We talked about you. I asked a lot about you. I asked how you were and if whether you ask about me. Chris said you don’t and I didn’t push it. Chris said you told him that I greeted you on your birthday. Chris said you told him we haven’t been talking for a long time since. Why do you tell Chris and not me?
…but I said,
Me: “Not much. Said you were all given two hours more to work.”
D: “Right. So draining. Lucky you. We hardly have weekends off now. So what’s up with you?”
Me: Do you know that for the past month I’ve been to Cdo, met a cousin of yours who hit on me and asked me out, asked somebody to be my boyfriend, got another boyfriend in the process, was almost kicked out from the house because you no longer go there, and a friend of mine died?
…but I said,
Me: “Nothing much you’d be interested in. So I gotta go, I still have work.”
(pause)
Me: “Hello?”
D: “Okay. It was nice to talk to you tonight.”
Then I hung up.
