Behind the facade of new bars

In every occasion that something new happens to penetrate our city of Golden Friendship, Kagay-anons are on a field day. If that ‘something new’ has never been experienced by a native-born Kagay-anon in his city, he will: first, grew excited, and second, consume himself with it to the point of exaggerated overwhelm until he cannot take it anymore. For instance, when Site reopened, party animals flocked to its opening. When Max opened its doors to the public, people suddenly found themselves picking up fights just to get a table even if there was a waiting lobby inside the restaurant. Ditto for Pizza Hut as waiters had to restrain themselves from reprimanding impatient diners. This year, two happening bars opened: FU and Eleven 50. Both possess the entireties of a bar any habitué is likely to be attracted to. They play chillout, house, progressive and lounge music. They have the perennial strobe lights and blue dimmers. They serve drinks with over the top prices which I’m sure a regular college student will have a hard time compensating next week’s allowance with it (but I had to attest FU is cheaper). They also house the city’s finest breed – only the elite, the socialites and the bar habitués. No ghetto people, no siree.

I came, I saw, I was thrilled. FU reminds me of the VIP lounge of Vudu with their glass walls and white interior and so does Eleven 50. Their music was reminiscent of the main room, of the Loft, of Cielo. I could party here. Every weekend – Every weekday – With my real friends – in my city – and not pay for partying. I was tempted to write my resignation letter, pack all my bags and all. After all, Cagayan de Oro was a smaller version of Cebu and nothing seems to be any different anymore so why part with her? (so I came to Cebu to party or to work, you get to decide ahaha).

But. See, there is always a clincher – there should be a new word for BUT. I had to have the owners of these bars to be accountable for piquing the interest of the Kagayanons interest for a long time.

Kagay-anons are the most ungrateful lot.

Give them a new restaurant and when the sentiment of new utensils and the novelty of the latest fusion dish is going to wear off, they are going to leave you feeling sorry you invested so much on this business when after two years nobody is considering going to anymore. Not everyone is Patrick Sy Lee, who, after how many years of investing into the F&B business after giving CDO The Site and East Wok, has managed to bring more people to Limketkai Center even after how many people had seen and had came to it.

And here’s the most hateful thing. I cannot drink and make a fool of myself in public and get away with it. The What A Small World phrase places a heavy emphasis on the city and the one who invented that phrase must have been thinking of Cagayan de Oro at that time. Unlike Cebu where you cannot just ukay and harvat because these men happens to be either friends of your exes or sons of your mom’s bestfriends ahahaah what a trip. In Cagayan de Oro, everybody knows your fucking shit it’s the worse. And you always run into some guy that you’ve hooked up with before it seems like you cannot get away from them.

So I’m not packing any bag yet. Hector Osin might strangle me for that hahah however Cagayan de Oro has to do better than open up these bars. A fatter paycheck, perhaps. Lol. Hit hotness said that I shouldn’t have gone back to Cebu because he is sick of the women in CDO. More reason to be in Cebu so he won’t feel that way. Comprende.

Tsada!

Singing to Black Eyed Peas’ Bebot,

 Kagay-anon! Kagay-anon! ..

Kagay-anons are unpredictable MEAN people– or their style of fun just changed. This change is spelled F-U (F-U only! Hmm your green minds are working again..!). Friday night on October 27 at FU was a precursor to a Halloween party that also culminated on Saturday at FIZZ bar. Hade’s Night let people come in any costume or pay 300 bucks. Of course, the ubiquitous black and red headbands that sport horns are essential to not pay extra. I had to don a gold mask which I unintentionally lost somewhere between martinis and dancing. Dino’s wedding was held at Marco Hotel so the entourage came to the costume party in their party barongs and gowns. Mrs. Ivy Jadap-Roa, the lovely wife, came in all her bridal gown splendor and joined the fete. Now who can top this wedding party?! I was also seeing someone that time, some basketball player who’s also friends with his hotness but along the way was a major disappointment. Yezzz, girlsies and boysies this diva is sick of playing, so no siree. He was a ‘no deal’. Of course the visit to the cemetery went underway on November 1. That was after all, the main purpose of this leave. Isn’t it!  November 1 at Greenhills Memorial Park had always been a social event to many with people coming in at 11pm, go to their designated dead with descendants having the weirdest last names (my favorite is Makabaliotin – Bisaya for maka-break ng penis), kiss relatives then call friends. “Where you at? Let’s meet at the top. Call everybody.” When I do, I’d tell my dad I’m gonna go over to my friend a block away, and he’d retort, “Is she dead o alive?” Tripping ha. People’d end up playing poker also or mahjong. They’d go drinking and forget about going back home together with their families because someone somehow could drive them home in the early morning.  And your diva for the past days had been all the time at FU which everybody can’t get enough of because. Because. Because. I just didn’t realize there are a lot of people coming home in October. Can you repeat reunion again for the second time from the top?! My throat got hoarse from all that shrieking. “Nieta, you’rehomepalaIcannotbelieveeverybody’shereIwishIhavegonehomeearlier!!”

Lady Cabrera, Michelle Cabrera, Tin Acebu and Kristine Roa | Cagayan de Oro

The baby boasted six megapixels, High ISO set to 800, aceessorized with extra Carl Zeiss wide conversion lens with manual settings that screams You’re Fuckingly HOT! Soo… the vacation was properly documented, yes yes. The parties were in still motion. Yes, but the energy very vivid.  Photos here.

Eyes and Ears

Because I’m missing out so much on my friend’s lives and yes, they have to point that out all the time I’m getting my fill of the latest chismiss. So I finally met my cousin Nikko Roa’s girlfriend and Charmee Fernandez is also dating another cousin of mine. At least they’re lucky with their lovelives. Couldn’t be happier for them. Ü And Chito Banquerigo is getting married this December! A wedding in Davao, im psyched! Especially when it falls on the same weekend of the drag race. Another Splak Crew is also getting hitched soon, right Wills? Remy Lou Hojas is also giving birth this December oohhh a baby in the house how suhweet. Kathy Lagrosas just gave her second baby and after five weeks was seen at FU. Lol. A friend was also accused of embezzling gazillions of moolah and stories spread about it that she chose to ostracize herself from the city. Just because a person decided not to defend herself doesn’t mean she’s guilty. Innocent until. Tsk tsk. Chismiss lang sa common friends.

Anyway, I kissed this cute godson of mine and wondered where are the rest of my godsons..??

The drunkenness steep in at 3am which I didn’t notice until Tin texted me the following day, “Sweetie, how’s the hangover?” I replied, “It’s sleeping next to me.” Hahaha. Nah, I was just joking. Hindi magkalat sa home court. Nope, Nope.

oh, there. Joey and Anton.

The vacation was not also spent on FU only haha. My sisters and I also had quality time to ourselves.

This is Vanessa. I’m pretty sure those who have known her as the noisy, squalling, annoying little sister of mine choked on their, “That devil you have for a sister!” Well, the vacation has to end somehow. I bade Cagayan de Oro goodbye: the city, the family, the friends, and the men. Sniff. Depression mode na naman for a week. Watch out.

 [L-R: Lady, Michelle and Tin]

Hahahaha. Fu Club’s party mode was Ladies Night on Fridays and the habitués of the old bar at the East, according to party whisperers, flock to Fu leaving their tables to the flies. Sad. Sad. I told you. Kagay-anons are a mean lot. But it’s great that Fu brings another level to the word partee especially when you suddenly wonder there is an abundant flow of mineral water at 3am. Clap. Clap. Late bloomers but I’m all for the present. Clap again. Get me some, get me some until a cousin slapped my arm because hell, Xtina, you’re driving. Plus, you’re driving people home. Acck. Where is the driver when you needed him? Cousin James promised a bodyguard last time to drive me home but somehow his own didn’t show up. Soo yes, you go to FU and you partee, forget about your ride. Get a driver, nieta.Which also means if you FU, make sure you know where your car keys are because the search party I asked last time was none too happy to find out that the keys all along were with the guard who was posted at the VIP. Woopshie. My bad. Jayboy was ready to strangle me. I cannot imagine waking my dad up for the duplicate. Nagmenopause na ‘yon. I might not get to Cebu in one piece. People from Cebu also came to CDO to party and the guys that I met we’re amazing. I still can’t get over the fact that one of them has the same last name as of my beau. Even in CDO he is still haunting me, walang kwenta. Tsk. Tsk. I got a new baby last weekend, a belated birthday present from the mother dearie who finally brought justice to my camwhoring!
