cdo in august

By Kristine Roa in Cebu City 1 views

I’m bake!

Hahaha. What’s what I texted my friends in Cebu when I got back from CDO. I’m back in the City of the South – back to eating out, taking out, dining out, making out, cabbies, motorela-free roads and huge malls. Sigh.

I just got back from my hometown that not only has changed so much since I left it last May but also the people in it. I cannot believe the crowd all over the place – whether at the mall, in Divisoria or gasp at the Muslim DVD stalls! Because it’s the week before fiesta you would think Kagay-anons are very much cooped at home trying to come up with pre-fiesta plans but no– they are all over the city so much I wonder who is watching over their houses.

On Friday, my mom had family over for lunch and I had Hector and Jay come over too. The guys are looking great. Hector was on a diet – eew, I guess his new love has got something to do with it. They have been regaling me with stories of yore when all I ever wanted to hear were stories of people they are with right now and how everyone else is doing. Hector of course has a new girlfriend which I have yet to meet. Jay had been busy with his garden. He has been preoccupied with his plants and strawberries to care about anyone else’s business.

Me: Jay, you are useless. You don’t have chismis for me.

Jay: Who has time for chismis? They’d be talking all about me anyway once I’m in PDA.

Hec had to leave so Jay and I went to Limketkai Mall to walk around and the shoulder-to-shoulder slew of the people didn’t appeal to either any of us which is why we had to go home so I could prepare for going to Xavier Chapel for Mom’s Thanksgiving Mass. She is by the way, a Golden Girl. Whoop de woop to you Mrs.

Dinner was at Pryce Plaza Hotel with family and Mom’s friends where everybody was given food certificates for the night. Sigh. I had Hector, Sobie, Jay and Jb follow at the hotel but it was raining so we met at Site where I also saw James Jaro and his ‘very important’ friend from Dapitan rumored to be into businesses similar with jueteng. Ooh how exciting. James is raking so much he was driving a Toyota Fortuner. Whoa. Heavy gawsy! :) Let’s trade cars! Hahahaha. Thumbs Up

I also saw my cousin Bernadette’s friends Sicily and her highschool classmates from Saint Mary’s and gawsy turned Tita Candice Roa. They, too, were also hanging out and probably catching up on stories of yore. Aww… I miss my cousin Bernie. She’s in Indonesia and might be coming back for good. Too bad I won’t be able to see her.

Saturday morning we took mom to the airport because she’s leaving for Manila for the bar exams. I’m up to my knees praying for her. You too also. Hahah. Support, Support. My dad and I along with his brothers went to go to visit my grandfather in his grave and I’m not gonna go there cause it’s too sad to begin talking about it. It’s just great that we had lunch at my grandmother’s house with everybody to take my mind off the sadness of my grandad’s passing away.

The entire afternoon was spent at my favorite place – the Salon to have my hair done and my nails and everything else that my mom’s membership card can pay off without me shelling out anything. This is what I don’t have in Cebu waaahhh loser! Loser

Saturday night in CDO was like any other Saturday night in Cebu except that you know the people who’s out there laughing with their cocktails and who’s car is parked right in front of yours. You know where your friends hangout plus its pre-fiesta week, almost everybody you know who’s no longer in CDO is home. Oops, except Cookie who’s back in Manila just in time I got back in CDO, and Tessa, and Rona, and Anton —ay, a lot pala are not home. Malas.

Bamboo and Ira Cruz were just the apple inside the mouth of CDO’s fiesta roasted pig and their gig at OIC was exemplary not to mention the dry-run of CDO’s newest bar, F.U. The first floor of OIC restaurant has been transformed into a chillout bar where I heard bouncers are actually refusing entry from people who don’t fit in. Ernie, is that true?? Sheesh. How harsh. Which reminds me, thanks Charmee, my friend who is now a certified Ophthalmologist whose clinic is in Gaisano City (adlib… adlib… advertise… ) hahaha.. the lechon I had at the anniversary is payoff for this blib) that just celebrated their first year anniversary last Sunday, for not forgetting to tell me about the guy that I dated before who was now looking for me because he just got back from Amsterdam. Hmm. Wink

The city’s fashion sense somehow evolved though. Somehow. Still low-key, subtle, sexy and very much not into the agaw-eksena (scene-stealer) looks I’m used to in Cebu –fakkk… obviously ruled out by Koreanos who dress all the time like they’re on their way to Vudu. I saw someone in Candy’s who has black leggings peeping out from her itty-bitty short dress and pearl necklace.. my eyebrows raised and hmm… nice, nice. Very impressive. I saw my friend Chi Javier at M2 wearing a loose brown top with the right shoulder off, a gold belt to hold the top against her hips, short shorts and a huge white beaded necklace to sum up her outfit. Loves it sweetie. Yisse Caluen, my married friend, (muah-muah, I miss you) laughed because Chi and I might as well have a dance number coming up for we’re both wearing shorts and a loose top. If she didn’t tell me she just had an operation because of a tumor in her head, I would have giggled at her comment but I didn’t. She’s been bored sick in Bohol and don’t worry, I might find my ass in Bohol and annoy you and Jeff. Big Hug

I saw James at Site again and he’s hanging out with Raizel. Uyy.. sweeties.. I smell something. Teehee.. You guys are the cutest. I’ll forecast your getting back together! Joke! Don’t hate. Hahahhaa..

I had a talk with one of my bestest girlfriends in highschool Pauline because we were the ones who were driving around CDO with Jay and this is just crazy but she told me that she also hooked up with the bastetball player that I was with here in Cebu! Gasp! The nerve of that guy! He totally knows who I hang out with, he knows my circle of friends and he had the audacity to look for me that night. Amazing, tsk tsk. He must have had a kick out of that. Anything that concerns men’s d*ck – they forget about propriety. Ack. But Yen and I were able to compare notch –uh, I mean notes bwahahaha. Clapping Hands

All of my friends have girlfriends now. Alvin, Hector, Eugene, Jay – plus Sobie has Jb (forever) and Apol, oh wait, she is with Anton hahaha…that leaves me, Cookie and Barbie – the singles. Oh my, now its my turn to watch them play tweetums to each other and keep my stomach from hurling after seeing them kiss and baby-talk. Gag. I hope their girlfriends won’t get jealous of lil ol’ me. Boo.

Going back to Cebu means bringing the ubiquitous pasalubong, the ever sought after pastels of Vjandep which also brings me back to that day I was at Makahambus to buy those when I saw none other than Viel Jose himself who I didn’t know was in CDO that time or else we could have hung out. Its his birthday on the 8th of September. Looking forwardee… Oh, I gotta make up for all that weight I must added on my hips after all that bingeing in CDO – mom’s Bulalo, the lechons in her bday, those Gonuts I brought, grandma’s cooking, Sentro! Yumyum. Eric, where were you??! Lol. You’re presence will always be in those Apple cobblers that I keep bringing to Cebu.

It might take a while for me to plan my next visit home but I’m pretty sure my friend Barbie Fortich will shoulder my flight home, huh, Barbs? Hahaha. Shiyet.. the city fiesta is going to be on the 28th this month. I’m gonna miss so much. This is twice that I’ve missed it but considering the number of fiestas I’ve been on… hmm, doesn’t make it that bad. Toodles. Sigh. All those parties. Bye. Bye. Sleeping
